Tatsujiro Suzuki the vice director and a professor at the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition (RECNA). RECNA is part of Nagasaki University and currently focuses on Northeast Asia nuclear issues. Suzuki helps study the impact of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons on nuclear energy and on global nuclear issues.
In 1988, Suzuki earned his PhD in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tokyo. He since has served as a research fellow, a consultant, and a professor throughout his career. From 2010 to 2014, he served as a Vice Chairman of the Japan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC). He also co-authored a report on Japan’s plutonium program.
Suzuki advocates that the Japanese government should consider fundamental changes in their current nuclear energy policies. Since 2014, he has served yearly as a Council Member of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs.
