Alan E. Florin was a research associate in the Chemistry Division of the University of Chicago's Metallurgical Laboratory during the Manhattan Project.
He worked in Group 6 - Basic Wet Chemistry in Sub-Section II - Basic Chemistry and Service Section of the Chemistry Division. As a member of Glenn Seaborg's [1] Chemistry Division, he worked with plutonium and other heavy metals.
Alan Florin married Kathleen "Kay" Gavin [2], the supervisor of the Nonacademic Service Group at the Met Lab, in August 1944. Later, they both moved to New Mexico and worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory. [3]
