Seymour Calvert served for 11 months in the Special Engineering Detachment at Los Alamos. He specialized as a chemical engineer, and carried out experiments with beryllium that were often dangerous. After serving, Calvert went back to college and graduated with a B.S. in chemical engineering from Michigan Tech University. He later went on to get both a M.S. and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. After a distinguished academic and professional career, Calvert passed away in San Diego, Califronia in February 2002.
