Robert I. Howes Jr. is an American physicist.

He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1941, and was less than two years old when his father Robert Ingersoll Howes joined the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos. The younger Howes grew up in Los Alamos during and after the project, and graduated from high school in Los Alamos in 1959.
