November was an exciting month as the Atomic Heritage Foundation, with the Los Alamos Historical Society, launched a new website, Voices of the Manhattan Project. With an initial sampling of 26 oral histories, the site has generated nationwide interest and press coverage. Over the next year, we hope to add hundreds of oral histories from many sources.
The newsletter features excerpts from some our fascinating oral histories, from Nez Perce elder Veronica Taylor at Hanford, to K-25 Plant worker Joe Dykstra, to Los Alamos worker and Trinity test photographer Jack Aeby.
The newsletter also discusses the status of the legislation, currently under consideration in Congress, to establish a Manhattan Project National Historical Park. We remain guardedly optimstic that the legislation will move ahead in the lame duck session of the 112th Congress.
