Newsreel Shows Japanese Surrender

Category:

On September 2, 1945, Japanese government and military representatives signed the Instruments of Surrender, officially bringing World War II to a close. The ceremony took place aboard the USS Missouri, which was anchored in Tokyo Bay.

This incredible newsreel captured video of the surrender ceremony. General Douglas MacArthur, Admiral Charles Nimitz, and other Allied military commanders signed the document. After the ceremony, planes flew overhead, celebrating the beginning of peacetime.
