Rose Bethe and her husband, Nobel Prize winner Hans Bethe, moved to Los Alamos in early 1943 when Hans was appointed leader of the Theoretical Division for the Manhattan Project.
Nicholas Constantine Metropolis was born on June 11th, 1915, in Chicago. In 1936 he received his bachelor's degree, and in 1941, his doctorate, both from the University of Chicago, and both in experimental physics.
